FRESHMAN SELAH DUNGEY WINS STATE CHAMPIONSHIP

QUALIFY FOR TRACK AND FIELD MEET OF CHAMPIONS
Freshman Selah Dungey won the at the NJSIAA Non-Public B State Championship in the high jump on Saturday, June 1, 2019, as one of four NA track and field athletes to qualify for the NJ Meet of Champions (MOCs). Along with Selah, James Blume ’19 (pole vault), Jackson Powers ’20 (1600m), and Warren Sunada-Wong ’20 (3200m) qualified and will be competing in the MOCs Saturday, June 8 at Northern Burlington County Regional High School in Columbus, NJ. In order to qualify for the MOCs, an individual needed to place in the top three in his or her event at the State Group Championship. Selah jumped 5-02, coming in first place, resulting in her being the Non-Public B State Champion in the high jump for this season. James came in second in the pole vault with 11-06; Jackson came in third in the mile with a time of 4:40.05, and Warren placed second in the 3200m with a time of 10:19:39.

FRESHMAN SELAH DUNGEY NAMED TO ALL-STATE TEAMS

Newark Academy’s winter track team member Selah Dungey ’22 capped off a championship winning season with All-State recognition. Selah was named to NJ.com’s All-Non Public B First Team as well as the Mile Split NJ State Freshman Team  for the high jump. The honors come on the heels of winning the Non-Public B high jump at the NJSIAA indoor track group championships with a high jump of 5-2, tying the meet record.

Newark Academy’s Selah Dungey ’22 won the Non-Public B high jump at NJSIAA indoor track group championships on Feb. 16 at the Bennett Center in Toms River. Selah became just the second freshman of the group meet weekend to win an individual event. With a high jump of 5-2, she tied the meet record matched by five others, most recently of which came last season.

North Jersey high school athletes at the New Balance Nationals

The New Balance National Track & Field Championships were held June 13-16 at North Carolina A & T in Greensboro, N.C. Below are the high school athletes from North Jersey who competed. CHECK BACK AS RESULTS WILL BE UPDATED THROUGHOUT THE WEEKEND.

CH: Championship Division; EE: Emerging Elite; FR: Freshman; SP: shot put; D: discus; J: javelin; HJ: high jump; LJ: long jump; TJ: triple jump; PV: pole vault.

6:00 p.m.: Selah Dungey, Newark Academy (Hackensack), FR HJ (5′-3″, CHAMPION).

The meet added a fourth day, reserved for junior high school and freshman events and North Jersey athletes capitalized with Benjamin Shue of Carlstadt winning the JHS shot at 47-9 3/4 with the smaller middle school implement and taking fifth in the discus at 153-3. Selah Dungey of Hackensack, who attends Newark Academy, won the freshman high jump at 5-3. And Teaneck’s Kayce Darby was sixth in the frosh 100 in 12.27 after a 12.12 trial and just missed the 200 final.

North Jersey track and field athletes excelling in national, pro competitions

Two youngsters from Hackensack medaled as Saige Nicholson was fourth in the girls 11-year-old shot with a toss of 32-7 1/2 and Selah Dungey was third in the girls 14-year-old high jump at 5-3.

NA GIRLS’ TRACK AND FIELD TEAM WINS SUPER ESSEX CONFERENCE

…freshman Selah Dungey won the high jump competition, and also scored in the 100m dash (tied for 6th), 200m dash (6th place) and the long jump (third place).
